Chitwan National Park

Tiger in NepalRoyal Chitwan National Park stands today as a successful testimony of nature conservation in South Asia. This is the first National Park of Nepal establised in 1973 to preserve a unique ecosystem significantly valuable to the whole world. There are three dominant vegetation types, over 50 species of mammals, more than 400 types of birds and as many as 67 different types of butterflies. If spotting a tiger still remains a rare experience, other animals such as the on-horned rhinoceros, sloth bears, different types of deer, monkeys and even fresh-water dolphins are often and easily seen. The river banks are home to different alligator species. Turtles are also found here. The Park has gained much wider recognition in the world since UNESCO included this area on the list of World Heritage Site is 1984.
